is a little more expensive than $300. Otherwise, you will end up spending a LOT more in maintenance in the long run. *RAMBLE FUNCTION - ON* About the Z. I know it will be painful, but I would suggest putting it in your parents garage(if an option) on jack stands. When you do so, put rubber insulating pads between the stands and the frame rails. Next, focus on school and saving money for your beater, which DOES get you to/from school!! Once finished or further on in your college carreer when you find a decent job, start saving for an engine rebuild. Figure in (along with the things you've mentioned) the cost of new hoses, pistons, rings, valves and springs/seals, ARP bolts, headwork (deck at the very least), belts (including timing and related components), full urethane bushing set, motor mounts, emissions sensors, fresh paint/bodywork, rack bushings, brake lines, shocks, and new tires. And don't forget to flush every other fluid and replace with new. If you have an auto, have it serviced. May need new seals and what-not after sitting. I may have forgotten a couple of things, but I'm frazzled already. My point is that you need to concentrate on your education now so that in the future you will be able to enjoy the Z and all the other nice things in life that I'm sure you're already dreaming about. The beater is going to be your only life-line to getting the education, so you need to save money for your 'maintenance' fund. You never know what is going to break on a car you buy at auction. Might work out that nothing ever does, but you need to be safe. Besides, if nothing ever does you will need obtain that much less moola when it's time to resurrect your Z. All said and done you will have one of the nicest Z32's on the planet....AND a college degree. MMWWWUUUAAAAHHHAAAHHAAA.... And yes, owning a Z when you're in your 30's is still VERY cool.
